FISH SEED PROPAGATION

2.0 FISH SEED PROPAGATION
What is fish seed?
Fish seeds are young fish (Larvae, fry and fingerlings) that grow to become table or
parent fishes.
What is Seed Propagation?
This is the science of assisting parent fish to multiply and have descendants.
Method of fish Seed Propagation
Fish seed propagation could be by:
 Natural spawning
 Induced spawning without hormone treatment
 Hormone induced natural spawning
 Artificial spawning) making parent fish to produce off spring willingly in a
controlled environment).
Why Artificial Spawning?
 Fish seed collection from the wild is seasonal and unpredictable.
 By manipulation of hormonal and environmental factors, fish seeds can be
produced un-interrupted all year round.
 The disease and genetic history of wild fish are unknown and as such wild
seed are less tolerant to changing physical and chemical conditions in ponds
than the hatchery-bred.
 Health history and genetic history of hatchery-bred fish could be traced and
improved.
Basic Tools used in Fish Seed Propagation
 Concrete tanks/Incubation trough
 Hormone, Needle and syringe
 Funnel incubators
 Plastic Jugar Jars
 Towel
 Razor blade

Feeding fish

Many fish feed companies keep a good listening ear to suggestions, feedbacks that my company furnishes them with including pricing. We can't say we are alone but God is good always n that informs some allowing us to check out there feeds  Let's start with foreign feeds. Biomars, coppens and Ziegler fishfeed are feeds that we experimented on during this period. Specifically we tested them on our  fish both in earthern ponds n concrete tanks. The results were quite surprising because we understood that there is a difference between "best before " $ "expired "  Most imported feeds are carrying best before doesn't mean that after d date feed is not fit for fish but it simply means it's quality has reduced. Now here is d twist. Best before in concrete/tarpaulin tank fish culture. We found out that after the best before date up-to 6minths the feeds still had good aroma, colour and fish still ate it very well and developed. The difference was not th...

Fish feed formulating 2

Starting from 1.The pulverizer Materials like maize,,,soy products,,,,or any other materials that isn't easily digested by monogastric are to be pulverized using mesh size of about 1mm,,,most feed mill won't use such mesh as it tends to slow down the production compared to bigger size mesh,,,, Improperly pulverized maize or soya meal, toasted soya,,ful fat soya, wheat,, are mostly wasted when included in the ratio as about 50% or more won't be digested by catfish But each feed ingredient  also has its digestibility % Each has distinct effects on the quality of the end product Yes,,, feed material digestibility % can be increased when properly processed,,,for example finely pulverized maize that is steamed before pellets won't have digestibility % like crushed maize  At the mixing stage... All materials most be mixed evenly so as to have same feed taste,,quality and colour in a certain production Feed additives are one of the major secret that's giving most i...
